SONYC-Biz is an afterschool program created by the Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC) to empower middle school students with leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurial skills. Rooted in the Brownsville community, SONYC-Biz provides a safe and engaging environment where young people explore their interests, build confidence, and connect learning to real-world opportunities through hands-on projects that blend academics, creative expression, and business fundamentals.

Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC) has served Central Brooklyn communities since 1997, providing economic development, workforce training, youth programs, and business support services. CBEDC created SONYC-Biz specifically to empower Brownsville youth with entrepreneurial skills and economic literacy. Their unique approach combines youth development with business education, preparing young people to become community leaders and future entrepreneurs.
