New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) was founded in 1971 by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, who believed tennis could be used to gain and hold the attention of young people so they could be taught about matters more important than tennis. Today, NYJTL is the nation’s largest grassroots youth tennis and education nonprofit, serving 85,000+ children annually across all five boroughs.

NYJTL’s proven model combines tennis instruction with academic support and character development, using the sport as a vehicle for teaching life skills, building confidence, and creating pathways to success. The organization operates the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the Bronx and dozens of programs citywide.
