The David N. Dinkins YMCA afterschool program serves over 180 elementary school students in Jamaica, Queens. This community-based program offers academic and enrichment activities during the hours that follow the school day and throughout the summer. The program provides academic support, workforce development opportunities, mentoring relationships, and comprehensive youth development services. All school-year participants are given the opportunity to continue during summer programming. Students are primarily recruited from P.S. 48, which serves 480 students in grades K-5.

The David N. Dinkins program is named in honor of New York City’s 106th Mayor, who served from 1990-1993 and was the first African American to hold the office.
